Location: Islington, London
Queensland Road is the final housing phase of the Arsenal Regeneration Area where, in partnership with Arsenal FC and Islington Council, Newlon Housing is building more than 1,400 affordable homes, with 1,100 already completed and occupied.
Under the Queensland Road contract Kier is constructing 354 homes which are a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership properties.
Located next to Emirates Stadium, Queensland Road will provide over 700 new homes with 354 being affordable and managed by Newlon.
The large number of affordable homes at Queensland Road makes it the biggest single development project in the Arsenal Regeneration Area and is a fitting finale to this amazing project.
From the early stages of the Project, GKR proceeded with the design of these curved shaped buildings to produce a fully ‘Un-Braced’ scaffold erected in 3 metre floor level lifts. With timely investment with our engineers developing this structure and working closely with our client, GKR ensured Kier that all of their requirements would be met with safety being paramount.
75% of the scaffold has been erected off the podium slab that is not designed to take the weight of a scaffold and therefore GKR have installed substantial bridging spanning across each of the grid lines.
