GKR Scaffolding has promoted Silvia Vieru to head-up their in-house Design Engineering department.
After being part of the team for 2 years, Silvia will take over the role of Lead Design Engineer from Lach Slavchev when he leaves at the end of the year. Silvia’s experience and approach to innovation, learning and development is the perfect fit for taking GKR’s engineering, design and digital capabilities into 2020 and beyond.
She hopes to build on the legacy started by Lach who has spent 5 years building GKR’s in-house capabilities in temporary works engineering and design. The team has a learning culture which has seen graduates and junior engineers thrive and build on their careers whilst with the company.
Silvia’s passion for her role stems from her commitment to GKR and its clients. Working as a part of a wider team alongside contracts managers, estimators and directors, engineers are involved early on in a project lifecycle, often at pre-tender stage supporting clients directly. This allows the engineers to be more creative and consultative, adding genuine value to the project from the start.
With the team growing in size and advances in 3D capabilities, the team is one of the busiest in the industry meeting client needs and implementing GKR’s digital framework.
Silvia Vieru said:
“Eventually I want us working more in 3D modelling. Our challenge is finding the time to teach juniors to use new software and develop new capabilities. In time, I want half the team working in 3D to meet our clients’ digital mandates. At the same time, we still need to be creating 2D designs to the same high standard as these are used on-site in a format more practical for their work.
‘I hope to build a team that will grow their career with GKR. There are plenty of opportunities here including training and individual personal development. It’s often a cliché, but GKR is genuinely a family. This culture is good for your mental health. Lach has created a supportive vibe within our team and I want to continue that.”
GKR Managing Director, Neil Rowswell, said:
“Silvia has proven herself to be not only an accomplished engineer, but also an encouraging and supportive team manager. When Lach joined us in 2014, he brought unique capabilities in house for GKR and built an energetic team that grew and thrived.
Silvia was an obvious choice to take this forward for us. We are excited about the opportunities with 3D modelling, BIM integration and expanding our day to day capabilities in design. The team will be growing again over the next 2 years to accommodate the needs of our clients and we look forward to supporting Silvia and her team to achieve this.”
